SAS Duty Before Glory: A Talk on SAS Great, Reg Seekings – By Tony Rushmer 1st May 2025 – at CMSM

Book Cover SAS Duty Before Glory

As part of our celebration of the SAS Real Rogue Heroes display and marking VE day, Combined Military Services Museum, Station Road, Maldon is delighted to announce that author and sports journalist Tony Rushmer will deliver a talk on SAS ‘Original’ Reg Seekings, on Thursday 1st May 2025 at the Museum. Reg was one of the most highly decorated Special Forces soldiers of WWII. Featuring in the recent Rogue Heroes BBC series he was a farm labourer’s son from the East of England, who climbed the ranks to become a sergeant major in the Special Air Service.
Reg made his name in the unit after becoming one of its very first recruits in the summer of 1941 in North Africa. He participated in a series of daring behind-the-lines operations, including L Detachment’s very first successful assault (at Tamet airfield). His fierce ambition, inner strength and courage continued to serve him well as he fought in Sicily and Italy. He also relied on Lady Luck, surviving a bullet to the base of his skull during action in France in 1944.
Tony Rushmer has been a journalist for almost 30 years, covering a wide range of top-class sport for print and broadcast media. His first book was the critically-acclaimed The Triumph of Henry Cecil. He runs his own PR and communications business and lives in Fenland Cambridgeshire, a couple of miles from where Reg Seekings was born.
Books, signed by Tony Rushmer will also be available to purchase at the event. Tony is donating his fee to Pilgrim Bandits, the SAS Charity.
Tickets for SAS Duty before Glory are available at Eventbrite at a cost of £14.25 which includes a tour of the museum and refreshments as well as the talk. Doors open at 6.15pm.
