Unpaid role, Voluntary, Flexible Hours 1 day or 2 x 4 hour shifts per week
Volunteers provide a vital service to help maintain the museum and outside spaces for the benefit of those who visit our nationally important collection. We now need a Maintenance Volunteer to help us keep our outside spaces smart, and to work with us to create a ‘Dig for Victory’ themed garden space for school and family visitors to enjoy.
The CMSM is a journey through British military history beginning on the brutal medieval battlefields, through the Crimean & Napoleonic Wars and, WWI & WWII to current day conflicts. We look at the secretive worlds of Spies, their gadgets, weapons and disguises, Special Forces, the Special Operations Executive and their daring operations behind enemy lines. We hold stunning displays of combat uniforms; one of Europe’s largest public display of firearms, medical equipment used on battlefields as well as medals, swords, armour, missiles and three pieces of field artillery on outdoor display.
This role will be based mostly, but not always, outdoors, working around the site keeping it tidy, clear of rubbish and weeds and helping to maintain the exhibits. We are keen to create a ‘Dig for Victory’ vegetable raised bed which will need ongoing maintenance so green fingers would be a bonus and vegetables grown will be available to volunteers as the seasons allow.
